Professor Stebbing

Nearly 50,000 women in the UK are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. The funds raised by One Thousand Women will be used by Action Against Cancer to fund a major drug discovery and development programme at Imperial College, Hammersmith Hospital led by Professor Justin Stebbing who is a world leader in the development of cures for cancer.

Professor Stebbing’s team recently discovered a new tumour promoting protein in the most prevalent form of breast cancer. The discovery made international news and was published in the number one medical journal, Nature Medicine. One Thousand Women is supporting the development of a test to detect and a drug to inhibit this protein. The tests will lead to earlier diagnosis and the drug will provide a new and inexpensive way to treat breast cancer sufferers. Your support will help to develop new treatments that will save the lives of thousands of women each year.
